Y’all, Christmas is just a few weeks away. Hopefully you are feeling much more relaxed and peaceful about it’s arrival since we’ve already been working on our preparations. I know I am. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks instead of feeling stressed out about all I have to do.
I hope my U.S. friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed your time with family/friends. But now it’s all about finishing up our Christmas preparations and soaking in the beauty of this season.
So, did you get last week’s action steps done?
Here’s how I did.
Since my menu is planned, I just focused on picking up things I needed for baking and cooking while shopping.
I purchase a few more gifts. I’m getting close to finishing up. I also got half of my cards addressed.
I finished my wreath and put up a few decorations.
I found an Advent devotional on YouVersion that I’m using for my personal quiet time and began the Names of God Advent Countdown with my family.
Now onto this week.
Check your calendar for any upcoming activities you have planned for the week.
We are going to focus on getting as much as possible done over the next couple of weeks so we won’t be overwhelmed the last week before Christmas.
Hopefully your menu is finalized. If not, get that done this week. Also, carve out some time to start preparing anything you can ahead of time. Cookies/cookie dough, pies or pie crust, scones, cinnamon rolls, and more can be made and frozen ahead of time. Just be sure to package them well. Here’s a great post on time-savers for holiday baking.
- Finalize your menu if you haven’t already.
- Pick up a couple of items needed as you grocery shop. Be sure to check for sales and coupons on those items.
- Begin holiday cooking prep.
I have a challenge for us. Let’s finish our shopping over the next two weeks. We do not want to spend the last week before Christmas fighting the crowds and standing in long lines. If you’re making gifts, try to get them made over the next couple of weeks as well. Nothing quite as stressful as trying to finish up a project at the last minute.
Continue to check sales ads and websites for deals on items you plan to purchase. If shopping online, be sure to go through Ebates(referral link) or a similar website to get cash back on your purchase.
Address your cards and get them in the mail this week.
- Shop for gifts and/or make gifts as time and budget allow.
- Check sales ads for savings opportunities.
- Address and mail cards.
Alright, if you’re like me and having really decorated much or at all yet, this is the week to do it. Gather your family members and spend some time each day decorating until it’s finished. Remember, only put out the things your love and make you smile.
If you’re making new decor, hopefully you have it finished. If not, try to finish it this week.
- Decorate as time allows and use it as a time to enjoy with your family.
- Finish any decor projects you’re working on.
Advent began this past Sunday. Just a few days in, but I’m really enjoying the Names of God Advent Countdown I chose. If you haven’t started an Advent devotional or countdown, here are 5 Advent ideas for you. Don’t worry about missing a couple of days. Just jump in where you are.
Let’s be sure our action steps to allowing times of peace and quiet reflection as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
- Set aside time each day to get quiet with God.
- Spend time each day focusing on an Advent devotional/activity with your family.
- Look for ways to serve others and share the love of Christ with them.
Check back next Tuesday and let me know what all you accomplished this week. I’ll have new action steps for us to take to help us have a simplified Christmas.
Before you go, be sure to let me know what you accomplished this past week. What do you find most challenging as you prepare?
