Y’all! This is week 7. Can you believe it? Christmas Eve is a week from today. When we started this, I had done nothing to prepare for Christmas. And now, while I’m not 100% finished with what I have planned, I’m close and that’s a wonderful feeling.
I have been able to enjoy this time leading up to Christmas more than in years past because I’ve been working on it a little at a time instead of trying to cram it all into two or three weeks.
How did last week go for you? Did you get the action steps done?
Here’s how I did.
I did a lot of baking on Saturday and added a little extra cookie dough to the freezer. Most of what I made went to a cookie exchange and life group party.
I need to check my list one more time but I’m pretty certain I just have one small gift left to purchase and I can easily pick it up one day this week. I did not, however, get around to wrapping any gifts. Oops!
It’s up and being enjoyed.
We continue to enjoy our family Advent devotional. We add a small ornament with the name/attribute of God we are focusing on to the mantel each night (although we’ve had to play catch up a night or two when I’ve forgotten the ornament). I love seeing them displayed across the focal point of our living room.
I am enjoying my personal daily Advent devotional as well.
Now onto this week.
Check your calendar for any upcoming activities you have planned for the week.
Hopefully the holiday menu is planned and you’ve got many of the items you need on hand. Let’s focus on prepping as much as we can this week. Whatever we can do ahead of time will lighten the load and free up time to spend with family and friends.
- Finish shopping for items needed for the menu. Be sure to check for sales and coupons on those items.
- Work on holiday cooking prep.
If you’re like me and haven’t quite finished your shopping, we have a week to finish it. Preferably, we can finish in the next few days.
If you’re shopping online, you’ll have to pay extra for speedier delivery to make sure you get it on time. As always, check for sales on items you plan to purchase and go through Ebates(referral link) or a similar site to get cash back on your purchase.
Try to take time to wrap a few gifts every day or two so you don’t have to wrap them all at once.
If you are mailing gifts, remember December 20th is the “mail by’ date for first-class mail service. So get those ready to go.
- Finish up shopping or making gifts.
- Check sales ads for savings opportunities.
- Wrap gifts as time allows.
- If you have gifts you’re planning to mail, get them in the mail by Friday.
Hopefully you’re finished decorating. If not, try to get it done in the next couple of days. And really, it’s okay to not get it all done. Really.
- Finish decorating with things you love.
- Enjoy it with your family.
I hope that these last six weeks of action steps have set us all up nicely so we can enjoy this next week without the usual stress of the holidays.
I am praying that this next week with bring us all moments of quiet reflection as well as joyful celebrations and that Christ will be at the center of it all.
- Set aside time each day to get quiet with God.
- Spend time each day focusing on an Advent devotional/activity with your family.
- Look for ways to serve others and share the love of Christ with them.
Check back next week for one final message in the series.
Before you go, be sure to let me know what you accomplished this past week. What do you find most challenging as you prepare?
