We don’t always get love right.
Love is patient.
We lose our cool.
Love is kind.
We say the wrong thing.
It does not envy.
We want what we don’t have and allow bitterness to creep into our hearts.
It does not boast, it is not proud.
We show off, exploiting our gifts instead of using them to serve others.
It does not dishonor others.
We tease, we shame, we gossip, using our words to wound.
It is not self-seeking.
We think the world should revolve around ourselves and what we want.
It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
We are quick to take offense, and slow to forgive.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth.
We may even secretly be glad when we see someone stumble in their own sin instead of walking in righteousness. Ouch!
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
We don’t always seek the best or see the best in others.
Love never fails.
We fail but God’s love does not. We can’t truly love on our own but in Christ we can. In Christ, our hearts are changed. We can forgive. We can offer kindness, even to those who have wronged us. We can want and seek what is best for others and not just ourselves.
We can extend mercy and grace to others just as they have been extended to us.
We can rejoice in serving those who God has given to us. In Christ, we.can.love.
And love never fails.
