November is here. And just like that, the holiday season is upon us. The next few weeks will be filled with Thanksgiving preparations which will flow immediately into all the wonderful celebrations during the Christmas season.
I love this time of year but it’s way too easy to get caught up in the doing and not focusing on the why we’re doing it. A season of thanksgiving preceding a time when we focus on the birth of our Savior is too important to be missed. We can use this month to slow down and focus on cultivating gratitude in our lives, giving thanks for all God has done and is doing in us, in our family, in our communities, and in our world.
There’s a lot of strife in the world right now but there is also a lot of beauty. Let’s not miss it. Let’s spend November immersed in gratitude and preparing our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior; our mighty King who humbled himself and came to this earth as a sweet babe and who grew up to give his very life for us so that we might live with Him forever.
I invite you to join me on my Facebook page during the month of November as we Focus on Thanksgiving. Each day I will share something I am grateful for and invite you to comment with something you are grateful for as well. Let’s begin a conversation of gratitude and allow it to spill over in our lives onto those around us. If you’re not on Facebook, you can join the conversation on Twitter. Just share something you are grateful for on Twitter with the hashtag #focusonthanksgiving and we will keep the conversation going there.
In 2010, I wrote a series entitled Focus on Thanksgiving. It included some wonderful guest posts buy three other bloggers as well. You may want to take some time to read through the posts as we prepare to Focus on Thanksgiving during the month of November.
And why don’t we go ahead and get started. Leave a comment sharing what you are thankful for today.
