By the time the Thanksgiving dinner leftovers are cleared from the table and stored in the fridge, we are pretty much focused on Christmas in our house. One of the things we look forward to is watching Christmas movies together.
There is certainly no shortage of Christmas movies available to watch but there are certain ones we tend to gravitate towards most. You’ll notice most of our favorites are comedies. We love to laugh.
Here are some of our favorites.
Elf – I think we laugh more every time we watch it. This movie quickly became a favorite with memorable lines that we catch ourselves repeating throughout the year.
A Christmas Story – This is my husband’s favorite Christmas movie and we all enjoy it. It is truly a classic. When Ralphie comes down the stairs in that bunny suit….laughter for days.
The Santa Clause – Okay, so this one may not be my husband’s favorite but I’ve watched it countless times with my girls. Plenty of laughs with a nice little message about priorities makes this one a favorite.
The Santa Clause 2 – Yes, we like this one too.
The Santa Clause 3 – The Escape Clause – And this one.
Home Alone – This is another film that stands the test of time. There’s always a lot of laughs when watching this one.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas – My kids prefer the live action retelling of this Dr. Seuss classic. Whether you prefer this one or the original animated feature, this is a don’t miss Christmas film
A Charlie Brown Christmas – There is no way I could leave this one off the list. It is always a favorite.
Christmas with the Kranks – This movie is goofy and sweet all mixed together, a fun Christmas movie.
A Christmas Carol – There are multiple movie versions of this classic Dickens novel. I think Disney did a great job with this version but whichever you choose, this story is ageless.
The Polar Express – This is a really beautiful movie. It always makes me want to curl up with a cup of hot cocoa while watching it.
The Original Christmas Classics – These are the Christmas classics I grew up watching. My kids don’t find them nearly as entertaining as I did when I was little so they don’t get watched much at our house these days.
Okay, so you may have noticed some classic classics that were left off the list. I must confess that I’ve never watched A Miracle On 34th Street or It’s A Wonderful Life, at least not all the way through. I have seen bits and pieces of them but just never felt drawn in enough to watch them all the way through. I clearly prefer the crazy, laughter-filled movies to the sentimental ones so we’ll just use that as my excuse, okay?
So tell me, what is your favorite Christmas movie?
