It’s Good Friday. We have 2,000 plus years of perspective to help us reflect on Jesus’ death on the cross. We know it was not the end. We know that Sunday was coming.
But at the time, those closest to Him didn’t have that perspective. That Friday must have felt so dark, so hopeless. They didn’t understand that in the middle of that darkness, God was showing us just how much He loves us.
But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 (WEB)
On the third day hope was renewed with these words:
Jesus was alive! He is alive!
Those three words “He has risen” are full of hope and beauty and love.
As we sit in the heaviness of this Good Friday we are not consumed. We have the hope of a risen Savior. And that is something we can celebrate not only this Easter Sunday but everyday.
