If you’ve ever tried to do this mom thing alone you know it’s pretty much impossible. We need other moms by our side to support, encourage, and help us along this journey. In Better Together: Because You’re Not Meant To Mom Alone, Jill Savage and her daughter Anne McClane share why mom friends are so important and offer encouragement and strategies to build a strong community of moms in your life.
By the time I had finished reading the first couple of pages, I was convinced Jill and I are soul sisters based on our past friendship patterns and styles. I was a tomboy who preferred guy friends to girlfriends most of the time. I did have a few close girlfriends through high school and college but I didn’t always manage those relationships well.
I also understood the reality of becoming a mom and realizing you need other moms who understand the current stage of life you’re living. But how do you cultivate friendships during such a busy season of life?
In Better Together, Jill not only shows you how to find and develop those friendships, she also helps you discover the type of friend you are and how to be a good friend to others.
Each chapter ends with a brief passage written by Anne followed by a “something to think about” question which gives you an opportunity to reflect on a particular aspect of friendship.
Jill and Anne also conclude each chapter with a friendship assignment which gives you an action step or series of action steps to take to build and develop your friendships.
I found this book so encouraging. I really made me want to do a better job of being intentional about nurturing my friendships.
I think every mom could benefit from reading this book, but most especially a mom who may be feeling alone on this journey.
