We can’t all spend our lives travelling the world but that doesn’t mean we can’t give our kids a global perspective. In Give Your Child the World: Raising Globally Minded Kids One Book at a Time, Jamie C. Martin provides insight and resources to help you introduce your children to the globe from the comfort of your own home.
We are introduced to the author’s multicultural family in Part One of the book. She also shares practical ways to invite the world into your home through your home décor, foods with international flair, child sponsorship, reading books, and more.
The focus of this book is to introduce a global perspective through books. Part Two of this book is an extensive list of books that your family can read to learn more about this world and the people in it.
The list of books are divided into categories based on areas of the world including: Africa, Europe, Asia, Middle East, North America, Latin America, Australia/Oceania/Polar Regions as well as a Multicultural category. The categories are then divided into age groups from 4-12.
Each listing includes a brief description of the book and its themes to help you choose the most appropriate books for your family.
I think this book is a fantastic resource. I would love to have had it when my girls were younger. Still, I’m sure there are some books that would work for our family at the stage we are now with a preteen and teen.
With the help of this resource, you and your family can start exploring the world from right where you are.
