Review: For Better or for Kids Kids change the dynamic of the marriage. There is just no way to get around that fact. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing though. In For Better or for Kids, Patrick and Ruth Schwenk remind us that a healthy, happy family starts with a good, healthy marriage.

Once kids come along, it’s easy to let our marriages become child-centered. Over time that takes a toll on a marriage.

Patrick and Ruth Schwenk offer practical ideas and encouragement to couples so they can have strong marriages that allow them to parent well.

As I read this book, it didn’t always felt relevant as it sometimes seemed more targeted to couples earlier in the marriage and parenting journey than my husband and I are. However, there was a lot of wisdom I was able to take from it.

I appreciated the real-life examples and action steps given to help couples guard their marriages and honor and protect their vows. By doing that, we can ultimately offer our kids a wonderful foundation to build on as they move forward with their marriages and families.

Overall, I feel this book is best suited for newlyweds and couples early in their parenting journey. However, I think couples at any stage could benefit from this encouraging book.
